Diet and Cholesterol Profile

by Hratch L Karamanoukian, MD and Pete Aoukar, MD
Posted: February 23

Diet modification to reduce cholesterol works best in persons who have the extremes of abnormal cholesterol, namely low HDL cholesterol (the "good cholesterol") or very high LDL cholesterol (the "bad cholesterol").

Another important thing to remember about diet is that diet works differently in different people.

Don't rely on a single food group to lower your LDL cholesterol or increase your HDL cholesterol. Try healthy foods in combination with anticholesterol lowering medications to optimize your cholesterol profile.

For more information, contact your primary care physician, cardiologist or cardiovascular specialist.
