Summary:
Broccoli is known as the “crown jewel of nutrition” because it’s packed with B-vitamins, vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, calcium and fiber, both soluble and insoluble. Each nutrient has a specific way in which it benefits the heart and you can find out by reading about each individually. Of particular note is the high fiber (6 grams in one cup) and calcium content (2/3 of cup milk in one cup of broccoli). As we will see, calcium is vital to heart muscle contraction. Suffice to say, that you can’t go wrong with broccoli. Versatile across many ethnic cuisines, loaded with heart beneficial elements, low in calories, broccoli is just plain awesome!
