Summary:
An ancient Chinese technique of inserting fine needles into known points along the body’s meridians. The intention behind such treatment is that of balancing the flow of Qi (pronounced “chi”)or vital energy of the body. Acupuncture has been used to treat everything from pain to drug addictions, and now has indications for treating the failing heart. Researchers from UCLA have shown that acupuncture can reduce high blood pressure, heart rate and sympathetic nerve activity in patients with severe heart failure. The possibilities are endless. If acupuncture doesn’t treat your hypertension, perhaps it could help you quit smoking.
